What happens when you are told to completely forget everything you have learned about photography to date? That was the task I was faced with last year as I did a day course studying in-camera multiple exposure and intentional camera movement. A daunting approach for someone who is usually a self-confessed control freak when it comes to photography.
My first thought was I had picked the wrong course. However, after the initial panic had subsided, I threw myself into the day and started to familiarise myself with the depths of my 5D’s menu system. The tutors encouraged us to use the techniques we learned with completely fresh thinking, leading to infinite creative possibilities. I came away with set of images that had taken me completely out of my comfort zone – but I am really pleased with – despite a seriously high dud rate!
The entire day was a massive eye-opener and I am now looking forward to developing these techniques further.
